Ironwood, Michigan “Michigan’s Western Gateway”
The Ironwood area is an extraordinarily beautiful area. It has instant access to nature’s finest treasurers. It is not hard to understand why Ironwood attracts visitors from around the nation. While originally an iron mining town, the area is now known for its downhill skiing resorts, including Big Powderhorn, Blackjack, Indianhead, Mount Zion and Whitecap as well as its cross country skiing at the Wolverine Nordic Trail System. Ironwood is home of the “World’s Tallest Indian”: a 52 ft (15.8 m) fiberglass statue of tribal leader Hiawatha.

Ontonagon, Michigan “Welcome to the Real North”

We’re on the south shore of Lake Superior, with miles of sandy agate beaches and fabulous sunsets. On the west side is Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park with miles of hiking, Alpine and Nordic ski trails, and hundreds of acres of virgin timber. In the south part of the county, we have Lake Gogebic and the Ottawa National Forest. All this surrounds over 100 waterfalls and miles of snowmobile and multi-use trails. The North Country Trail bisects our county on its route from the Appalachian Trail in Vermont to the Lewis and Clark Trail in North Dakota.
Hancock, Michigan
Cross the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, follow US41 North and suddenly you discover you’re in one of Michigan’s most unique Cities. Welcome to Hancock, gateway to the beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula. Named after John Hancock, signer of the Declaration of Independence, the town was founded by the Quincy Mining Company in 1859 during the heyday of the Keweenaw’s copper mining boom. The site of brass foundries and mining machinery factories, the town was best known for its famous Quincy Mine. Nicknamed “Old Reliable”, the mine produced copper continuously for 83 years paying stockholders millions in dividends. The City was also home to the Hancock Mine.
